Q. My little dog has some leg problems. His back legs are a little numb so he slips around on the tile we have. We are moving to a new home and are looking to put some flooring in. We would like to put anything but carpet. Would you reccomend wood or bamboo flooring? Are either of these better when it comes to slipping and sliding around? Thanks!

Q. I live in Sydney, northern suburbs. I'm trying to find the optimum solution for a bedroom floor to replace the sick carpets with an alternative healthy floor. My ideal is bright sand color flooring. Timber seems not that tough as bamboo, but bamboo products are imported from China and the quality may not be as good. If anyone has a bamboo floor for a few years now, I'd like to hear from you, and if you are happy with the quality, please let me know where to buy it from.

A. Well we haven't had it for two years, but we have had it for a couple of months. we have the dark maroon color and it shows dust and cleaning streaks retty badly so i have to clean it every other day to. i wish i would have went with the lighter color now like you are talking about. as for scratches, since ours is so dark, the deep ones do show but i go over them with a matching stain. i have never noticed lighter scratches. but since you are talking about getting the lighter colored flooring, the scratches wouldn't show up very easily. we were very happy with the quality. it wasn't like hardwood flooring where you have to inspect each piece before you put it down, each one that came out of the box was in perfect condition. and the brand we bought was nice and thick.

Q. I can't find any blinds that are the right size for my room and i need some these size. Also, I want one with 2" bamboo blinds. The rolled one don't have the effect I want.

Q. I have the light colored bamboo wood floors. I have used wood floor cleaners and a water and vinegar mixture to mop the floors. There still seems to be a build up of something left. What should I do to get that off of the floors? How much water to vinegar should I use in my solution?

Q. I was thinking about vinyl/resilient flooring, but it doesn't appear to be safe for the environment which is a turnoff. I need something that can survive dogs and occasional fish tank overflows. Would linoleum (not to be confused with vinyl) hold up to that? I'd also prefer something that doesn't need professional installation (I've heard that ceramic tile is a nightmare to install yourself). I didn't know bamboo was that cheap! I'll look into it. A. Ceramic type tiles are difficult and expensive to install. if its just a fish tank overflow that is controlled and cleaned quickly -- try bamboo its about $2- a sq ft - and very eco-friendly also one of the most hardest woods out there so bring on the dogs. good luck

A. With the economy being what it is, you will probably be able to find a good deal. I'm not sure what you have available locally, but you can also compare online prices and maybe negotiate a good deal for yourself. You'll also want to answer some questions though: Finished or unfinished? Stain color? Bamboo "wood" floors? Q. They would be for the living room. The couches are color chocolate, so are the center and side tables (just a little darker). The wood blinds would be the same color as the couches. The bamboo blinds would be a dark beige, with chocolate color designs, those would match the couches. By the way, there are two window in the living room, one big one and one smaller. What do you think? Which ones do you think would look better? I was thinking about the contrast too. And yeah, you guys are right, if I go for the wood It would look too dark.

A. I would have the bamboo blinds. The dark beige would break the chocolate colour from the couches, yet with the designs makes it match. Bamboo might be more expensive but if so, definitely worth it! Hope it goes well!

Q. I'm wondering about the look from the street. I know that white or beige window treatments look nice but I would really like to use bamboo type shades. But if they look bad from the front of my house I don't think I want to have them. Anyone have them?

A. Bamboo is a nice look, but can be seen through at night when lights are on in house.
